Ghana Premier League: Nations FC shock Aduana in thrilling clash

Nations FC shocked two-time champions Aduana FC by 1-0 at the Dr. Kyei Stadium during their Week 19 Ghana Premier League fixture on Sunday.

The two teams came to the party with a lot of energy and physicality displayed by both sides.

It was Nations FC who sprang out of the blue to score the opener. A perfect cross in the 22nd minute by Prince Botchway saw Joseph Effah leap above Aduana defenders to head home past Prince Osei in the visitors’ goal.

Emmanuel Marfo came a whisker to equalizing for Aduana but his effort was smothered by Nations FC goalkeeper Rabin Sanon with three minutes to end the first half. The opening half ended with Nations FC walking into the dressing room with a 1-0 lead.

Nations started the second half swiftly with Abdela Mashud and Aryeetey Ayikwei tormenting the Aduana backline. Aduana recovered momentarily from Nations’ torment but Marfo’s effort did not trouble Sanon.

The hosts, however, held their guns to keep the three points and will move into 11th with 24 points from 19 games.

On Saturday, Medeama extended their lead to seven points following a 2-1 comeback win at Vision FC. Reigning champions GoldStars were held to the goalless draw by Asante Kotoko on Saturday with Hearts of Oak selling out a goalless draw at home to Dreams FC.

Heart of Lions recorded their first ever victory in eight matches after beating Eleven Wonders 1-0.
