Zimbabwe champions Scottland FC have received a USD 300, 000 cash injection from the Southern African country’s business magnate.
Sir Wicknell Chivayo donated the cash to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) kings at the same time that they unveiled Premier League legend Peter Ndlovu as the club’s new team manager.
In a statement, Scottland FC said the money will go towards their PSL title defence and the CAF Champions League.
“We would like to thank our sponsor, Sir Wicknell Chivayo for the US$300 000 received today to start of the season,” reads the club’s statement.
“This will go a long way in motivating the squad as we prepare to defend the Castle Lager Premier Soccer title, we won on our debut season last year.”
The amount of the money is more than the USD100,000 Scottland FC reportedly pocketed for winning the Castle Lager PSL championship.
Meanwhile, Ndlovu has been hired as Scottland FC team manager, a similar post he held at Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa for over a decade.
The former Zimbabwean international joined the Betway Premiership giants in early 2000 after five years in the Premier League, including spells with Birmingham City FC and Huddersfield Town FC.
The former Warriors striker is the first African to play in the rebranded Premier League after signing for Coventry City FC in 1992.
Ndlovu is the latest high-profile arrival at Scottland FC after former Kaizer Chiefs strikers Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona who joined last season.
Scottland FC won the PSL title in their maiden season in the PSL under coach Tonderai Ndiraya.
However, the champions sacked Ndiraya and hired Norman Mapeza to lead the team in the forthcoming season.
