Mukwala seals North African switch with Al Nasr Benghazi

Uganda Cranes forward Steven Dese Mukwala has taken the next big step in his career after completing a move to Libyan giants Al Nasr Benghazi from Tanzanian powerhouse Simba SC.

The striker, who had entered the final six months of his contract at Simba, has penned a one-and-a-half-year deal with the three-time Libyan champions, bringing his short but productive stay in Tanzania to an end and opening a new chapter in North African football.

Mukwala leaves Simba having made a strong impression, scoring 13 goals in 28 appearances since joining the club from Ghana’s Asante Kotoko in July 2024.

His performances quickly established him as a reliable attacking option and attracted interest beyond East Africa.

Now, the Ugandan international links up with Al Nasr Benghazi, one of Libya’s most decorated clubs, who last lifted the league title in 2024. The Benghazi-based side plays its home matches at the iconic Martyrs of February Stadium and is remembered in Ugandan football circles for eliminating Proline FC from the 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup.

Mukwala’s move also sees him join a league that already features another familiar Ugandan name, former Vipers and Express FC striker Erick Kambale, who currently turns out for Al Sadaqa SC.

The transfer crowns a steady rise for the striker, whose career journey has taken him through Edgar’s Youth, Vipers SC, Maroons FC, URA FC, Asante Kotoko, Simba SC and the Uganda Cranes national team.

At Al Nasr Benghazi, Mukwala will be hoping to continue his upward trajectory and make his mark in yet another new footballing environment.
