Rising Ghanaian talent Douglas Owusu levels up in Serbia with transfer to Red Star Belgrade

19-year-old Ghanaian attacker Douglas Owusu took a massive step in his club career after completing a transfer to Serbian club champions Red Star Belgrade.

Ghanaian outlet JoySports was the first to report the move, which sees Owusu join Red Star for a transfer fee reported to be well over €2 million from fellow Serbian SuperLiga club FK Radnik Surulica.

The teenager adapted quickly to life in Europe after joining Radnik, where he produced 9 goals and 10 assists in 54 matches for the club over one and a half seasons. He was instrumental in helping Radnik achieve promotion to the top flight last season.

Now the next challenge begins for Owusu, who made his first move to Europe from Ghanaian second division (Division One) club Asekem FC. The diminutive winger established himself in Serbian football as an explosive player who is capable of both setting up and scoring goals with his impressive dribbling ability.

Red Star Belgrade are about to return to action after a month-long break from competitive fixtures. They are one point behind rivals Partizan through twenty rounds of the Serbian SuperLiga and will resume domestic league action on February 1. Their next matches will come in the UEFA Europa League, where they will travel to face Swedish side Malmo FC on Thursday before hosting LaLiga’s Celta Vigo a week later.
