Nsingizini Hotspurs confirm Madondo sale as Ugandan forward seals Betway Premiership switch

Ugandan striker Joel Madondo’s rise continues to gather momentum after Nsingizini Hotspurs officially confirmed his permanent transfer to Betway Premiership club Richards Bay FC in South Africa’s top flight.

The Eswatini club announced that they have reached a full agreement with the Natal Rich Boyz, bringing the former Wydad Casablanca attacker’s stay at Nsingizini to an early end barely months after he arrived.

In a statement, the club revealed that Richards Bay FC tabled an offer which has since been accepted, with all paperwork and personal terms successfully concluded between the South African side and the player.

Madondo had only joined Nsingizini in July 2025 on a two-year deal, but his impressive performances quickly attracted attention from across the border, prompting Richards Bay to move swiftly for his signature.

While confirming his departure, Nsingizini paid glowing tribute to the Ugandan, noting that although he will be sorely missed, the club chose to put the player’s career ambitions first. The Eswatini outfit also commended Richards Bay FC for handling the negotiations professionally and wished Madondo the very best as he steps onto a bigger stage.

At Richards Bay, Madondo has committed his future to a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until the January 2028 transfer window, marking the biggest move of his career so far.

He will link up with fellow Ugandan, goalkeeper Salim Jamal Magoola, who has been part of the Richards Bay setup since July 2022 and is now heading into his fourth year at the club.

Madondo’s switch means Uganda will now have three representatives in South Africa’s top flight this season, alongside Magoola and veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango, who remains on the books of reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

South African football has long been a familiar destination for Ugandan talent, with a rich list of players having featured in the PSL over the years. The roll call includes Postnet Omony, David Obua, Moses Waiswa, Timothy Batabaire, Geoffrey Massa and Allan Kateregga.

Others who have previously tested themselves in South Africa include Yasser Mugerwa, Isma Watenga, Godfrey Walusimbi, Charles Lukwago, Sula Matovu, Brian Umony, Ivan Bukenya, Boban Zirintusa and Geoffrey Sserunkuma.

For Madondo, the move to Richards Bay represents not just a new club, but a major step forward as he looks to cement his place among Uganda’s growing export list in top-tier African football.
