Uganda: FUFA and URA FC honoured by FIFA in Morocco

Uganda Premier League side URA FC, together with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), have been officially recognised by FIFA for outstanding leadership and long-term vision after receiving the prestigious Best Strategic Planning Award on the sidelines of the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.

The continental showpiece, which climaxed on January 18, 2026 in Rabat and was won by Senegal, provided the perfect backdrop for the historic moment as URA FC Chairman Dr. Micah Gaalya and Chief Executive Officer Allan Munaaba received the award on behalf of the club, alongside FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo, from FIFA Director of Member Associations in Africa, Gelson Fernandes.

The purpose of the working visit to the AFCON tournament in Morocco was not only to officially receive the award, but also to provide the club executives with a practical dry run of modern matchday operations, while offering them exposure to contemporary football technologies and state-of-the-art football infrastructure.

The visit formed part of FUFA and URA FC’s broader learning and benchmarking strategy aimed at continuously improving standards both on and off the pitch.

Beyond the award ceremony, the URA FC Chairman and CEO also got the rare opportunity to visit FIFA offices in Morocco, where they engaged with football development officials and gained deeper insight into global football administration structures, governance models and high-level operational frameworks.

The award was presented to FUFA, with URA FC being recognised as one of its member clubs that excelled under the FUFA Club Professionalisation Programme and the FUFA Club Pro Agenda, a long-term strategic framework aimed at transforming Ugandan football clubs into professionally run institutions.

This recognition crowns the collective efforts of FUFA and its member clubs in strengthening football governance and institutional development, placing Ugandan football firmly among Africa’s best performers off the pitch.

Cette distinction FIFA consacre la vision stratégique de l’URA FC et de la FUFA, désormais reconnues comme des modèles de gouvernance et de planification du football en Afrique.

La cérémonie s’est déroulée dans un cadre prestigieux, offrant une vitrine idéale pour célébrer les bonnes pratiques en matière de gestion du football en Afrique. Le président de l’URA FC, Dr Micah Gaalya, et le directeur général Allan Munaaba ont reçu le trophée au nom du club, aux côtés du président de la FUFA, Moses Magogo.

Le prix a été remis par Gelson Fernandes, directeur des associations membres de la FIFA pour l’Afrique, soulignant ainsi la portée continentale et internationale de cette reconnaissance.

Le Best Strategic Planning Award récompense les structures qui se distinguent par une planification cohérente, durable et alignée sur les standards internationaux de gouvernance du football. Dans le cas de la FUFA, l’instance faîtière ougandaise a été honorée pour la mise en œuvre réussie de son Club Professionalisation Programme et de la FUFA Club Pro Agenda.

URA FC a été identifié comme l’un des clubs modèles ayant pleinement adhéré à cette feuille de route, mettant en place des systèmes administratifs solides, une gestion financière structurée et une approche professionnelle de ses opérations sportives et extra-sportives.
