In one of the most intriguing moves of the January window, Siwelele FC have officially completed the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana winger Kgaogelo Sekgota.

The 29-year-old makes a high-profile return to the Betway Premiership, marking a dramatic leap from the amateur ranks of the ABC Motsepe League.

From the Wilderness to the Big Stage

Sekgota’s path back to the elite level has been anything but linear. After a turbulent period characterised by off-field struggles and short-lived spells at Upington City FCS, Stellenbosch FC, and Moroka Swallows, the pacey winger recently resurfaced at Tubatse United in the third tier.

His stint in the ABC Motsepe League served its purpose—reminding scouts of his explosive speed and left-footed trickery. Now, under the mentorship of head coach Lehlohonolo Seema, Sekgota has been handed what many describe as a “last chance” to reclaim his status as one of the country’s most dangerous attackers.

The signing comes at a critical juncture for Siwelele FC. In their debut season following the high-profile purchase of SuperSport United’s top-flight status, the club has found the transition gruelling.

Siwelele’s Mid-Season Snapshot: Position: Bottom half of the table. Points: 16 from 15 matches. Record: 4 Wins, 4 Draws, 7 Defeats.

By bringing in Sekgota, Coach Seema is clearly looking to inject more “X-factor” into an attack that has struggled for consistency. Sekgota won’t have an easy path to the starting XI, however, as he enters a competitive wing department featuring the experienced Vincent Pule and Tebogo Potsane.

A Career at a Crossroads For ex-Chiefs Star

For Sekgota, the second half of the 2025/26 season is about more than just points—it’s about reputation. At 29, the Limpopo-born star is at a career crossroads. If he can recapture the form that once made him a fan favourite at Naturena and a regular in the national setup, he could be the catalyst Siwelele needs to push for a top-eight finish.

If he succeeds, this move will be remembered as the ultimate comeback story. If not, it may be the final chapter for one of South African football’s most gifted, yet inconsistent, talents.
