Croatian head coach Krunoslav Jurcic believes that Pyramids FC’s upcoming clash against RS Berkane in the CAF Champions League will be extremely difficult, stressing the strength of the Moroccan side and the importance of the match in the race for group supremacy.
Pyramids will visit RS Berkane on Saturday evening at 7:00 PM GMT at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane, as part of Matchday Three of the CAF Champions League group stage.
Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Jurcic said that the encounter comes against a strong opponent with high-quality players, playing on home soil and in front of their supporters.
“There is direct competition between the two teams for the top of the group, which makes the match very difficult,” Jurcic stated. “Pyramids always play to win, regardless of the circumstances.”
The Pyramids coach revealed that his team prepared well for the match through an external training camp in the United Arab Emirates, and recently welcomed back their international players following the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite some absences — most notably international left-back Mohamed Hamdy — Jurcic confirmed that the squad is fully ready.
“We came to Berkane aiming to win, collect the three points, maintain our place at the top of the group, and take a big step closer to qualifying for the quarter-finals,” he added.
Jurcic also recalled the recent encounter between both sides in African competition, as they faced each other a few months ago in the CAF Super Cup, a tough match that eventually saw Pyramids crowned champions.
“Both teams know each other very well, which will make the game difficult for both sides,” he explained.
The Croatian coach expects an intense and physical contest, noting that the Municipal Stadium in Berkane is relatively narrow, which limits spaces and increases the level of physical duels.
“The match will be exciting, with strong challenges and high intensity from both teams,” Jurcic concluded, reiterating his full confidence in his players and emphasizing that the team’s goal is to continue competing at the highest level in African football.
