The recent acquisition from Polish club Radomiak Radom now has three goals in two league matches following Tuesday’s double, which came eight days after coming off the bench to score on his debut in a 6-0 thrashing of Mashujaa FC.
Visitors Dodoma Jiji have been struggling in the lower half of the league table but put in an inspired challenge against the reigning champions. Yanga went down towards the end of the first half before Depú leveled the match just before halftime after a penalty kick was awarded in favor of the Citizens.

The former Petro de Luanda and Sagrada Esperança forward then produced a spectacular header from Duke Abuya’s cross to put the hosts ahead for good in the 61st minute before Prince Dube wrapped things up six minutes later at the KMC Complex.
The champions’ new striker was reunited with former Angola national team coach Pedro Gonçalves after the Portuguese took charge at Yanga, joining the club for a reported €250,000 transfer fee from Poland. Depú previously played with Portuguese top flight side Gil Vicente and also spent time on loan in Serbia with Vojvodina after beginning his professional career with local club Académica do Lobito.
Yanga are one point clear of closest contenders JKT Tanzania at the top of the league table. It must be noted that the reigning champions have four matches in hand on JKT, who will likely fall behind Tanzania’s other CAF interclub competition participants as Yanga’s Dar es Salaam rivals Simba SC and Azam FC catch up to the rest of the league in matches played.
Wananchi have little time to rest, with Gonçalves’ side needing to turn their attentions back to the CAF Champions League. They will host Group B leaders Al Ahly at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar, a week after falling 0-2 to Ahly in Egypt.
Yanga are three points back of their opponents in the group on four points, currently sitting in second place but with Morocco’s AS FAR (3 points) and JS Kabylie of Algeria (2 points) in hot pursuit for a place in the knockout stage.
