After spending a season in China, Equatorial Guinea national team forward Luís Asué is back in European club football after joining LaLiga 2 club CD Leganés on loan.

The 24-year-old joins until the end of the ongoing 2025-26 season with a reported option to purchase for the club based in the Community of Madrid. It will be a first spell in Spanish football for Asué, who previously represented Portuguese clubs Moreirense and Braga.
He will compete for playing time in a group of forwards that has been plagued with inconsistency. After being relegated from the top flight LaLiga last season, Leganés has only managed 25 goals in 23 league matches this campaign. They are currently languishing in the middle of the table, in 13th place and not too far from the relegation zone.
In comes Asué, who scored 7 goals in 20 matches across all competitions for parent club Shanghai Shenhua during the 2025 season in China. His club finished as runners-up in the Chinese Super League and he featured regularly in the AFC Champions League as Shenhua failed to advance from the league phase, scoring 2 goals in 5 matches.

Despite some moments of brilliance in China, Asué did not provide the consistent scoring needed for Shenhua to capture a domestic league title and his latest move presents an opportunity to gain the notice of European clubs for a potential permanent transfer. He appears to be a good fit for his new club, with the ability to feature in a wide attacking position as well as his preferred role at the top of the formation.

Asué, formed at Equatoguinean club Cano Sport, represented his nation at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with two appearances and zero goals as Nzalang Nzalang crashed out in the group stage. He has 4 goals in 25 appearances for his nation.
Leganés continue their LaLiga 2 campaign on Saturday at Burgos CF.
