Simba SC head coach Steve Barker maintained his side can still play better than they did in their Tanzania Mainland Premier League fixture against Mashujaa FC at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium on Thursday.
Going into the game sitting sixth on the log, the Msimbazi Reds knew only a win will enable them to close the gap with the leading teams including their rivals Young Africans, who had defeated Dodoma Jiji 3-1 on Tuesday.

Simba looked the better side in the opening exchanges but they had to wait until the 27th minute to grab a deserved lead courtesy of new signing Libasse Gueye. Simba went into the half-time break enjoying a 1-0 lead but it should have been more.
Simba continued to dominate in the second period, and they were rewarded in the 76th minute when Selemani Mwalimu doubled their lead.
“It was a well-deserved victory, despite the shot that they had which we had to make a save, despite that we controlled the game well enough, a game we could have scored more, and kill it off,” Barker told Pan-Africa Football.
“But I am pleased with the progression of what I am seeing, new players have started to integrate, and pleased with the overall performance.
“We were in control of the game, but obviously there is still work to be done in improvement, but we are getting there.”

Mashujaa coach Salum Mayanga, said after the game: “We have a lot of work to do, we are not okay in the defence, and the striking areas, we need to work and improve if we want good results.
“We created chances but we were not able to score.”
The victory saw Simba jump to places to sit fourth with 16 points from seven matches.
