U-20 WWC (Q): Nigeria shift venue for Senegal duel

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved a request by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to change the venue for their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup (U-20 WWC) third round, first leg qualifier between Nigeria and Senegal.

The match, originally scheduled for the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Saturday, February 7, will now be played at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in the Ogun State capital of Abeokuta.

This change was confirmed on Friday by the NFF’s Director of Competitions, Ruth David. According to David, the NFF requested the move due to the deteriorating state of the pitch at the stadium previously approved for the fixture.

Following this development, the two-time U-20 Women’s World Cup silver medalists have been training in Ibadan and are expected to relocate to Abeokuta within the next few days to familiarize themselves with the turf at the new venue.

Lekan Salami Stadium previously hosted the Falconets’ second-round, second-leg clash against Rwanda in September last year, where they defeated their counterparts 5-0 on aggregate to advance.

The winner of the Nigeria-Senegal tie will progress to the final round of the African qualifiers. There, they will face either Guinea-Bissau or Malawi for a spot at the final tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Poland from September 5–27, 2026.
