Moffi had been excused from the Nice squad after an unsettling incident where he and teammate Jeremie Boga were attacked by supporters of the club outside the club’s training ground. The assaults came during a particularly difficult stretch of results in Ligue 1 and the forward has not appeared in a match since Nice’s 1-3 defeat at his former club Lorient on November 30.

But now an opportunity arises for the goal scorer who has spent over five years in France. Introduced on Porto’s social media, Moffi looked particularly excited to resume playing in a new environment where he can reignite his club career.

Moffi’s path in European club football

The 26-year-old has scored 54 goals and provided 12 assists in 148 Ligue 1 appearances since he joined Lorient from Belgian club KV Kortrijk during the 2020-21 season. The Calabar native first made his name in European club football with Lithuanian club Riteriai, where he scored 20 goals in 29 league appearances during the 2019 season to earn a move to a bigger stage in Belgium.

In addition to improving his club situation, Moffi can now also earn his way back into the Nigeria national team.

Injuries and decreased form have left him out of the Super Eagles picture, with only one brief substitute appearance to his name this year in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Benin in October. Moffi has 4 goals in 19 appearances for the Super Eagles.

He will join compatriot Zaidu Sanusi at his new club and will compete with the likes of powerful striker Samu Aghehowa. Porto qualified directly to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Europa League and currently sit atop the Portuguese Primeira Liga table, seven points ahead of rivals and defending champions Sporting CP.

They return to league action on Monday with an away trip to relegation candidates Casa Pia.
