Heart of Lions had won just a game in their last ten fixtures prior to hosting Asante who pummeled Holy Stars 3-0 last weekend at the Baba Yara stadium.
The hosts left no stone unturned with Seedorf Asante breaking the deadlock in the 35th after tapping in from close range. They doubled their tally just on the stroke of half time when Fawzi Ali found the back of the net after a goalmouth scramble, leaving Kotoko with a mountain to climb.
Back from recess, the Porcupine Warriors reignited their hopes with a goal back through Samba O’Neil’s 59th minute penalty kick. The eventual winners, however, had other ideas when Michael Ephson nailed Kotoko’s coffin with a 74th minute goal.
The victory pushed the victors into seventh spot on the league table with 30 points with Kotoko sharing 35 points with Hearts of Oak and Aduana FC in third, pending the remains week 21 games on Sunday.
Leaders Medeama failed to stretch their lead after slipping to a 2-1 loss at Nations FC on Friday.
