ZESCO United coach Mathew Ndlovu has vowed that his Zambian side will prevail over Kaizer Chiefs in Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) group-stage match in South Africa.
The MTN Super League giants will face hosts AmaKhosi at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban in a rematch. Last weekend, ZESCO United lost 0-1 to Chiefs at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola to leave the Zambians winless and bottom of the group.

Despite the home loss and the fact that the Power Men are yet to register a win in the group stage, Ndlovu told a post-match news conference on Saturday that he was optimistic of a good result.
“People back home have given us the confidence, and they are always behind us. To mother Zambia, we are saying we are here to give them what they deserve; proper result of course,” the coach said in a post-match press conference.
“We will deliver accordingly, and we need to enjoy at most because we know what we want, and the target at hand. We need to come up with a positive result so that we move forward accordingly. We are assuring them that we are there for them and we will perform accordingly.”
The Zambian coach also stressed the need for his charges to end the winless run in the Confederation Cup. Chiefs have won back-to-back including 1-0 in the Betway Premiership in a midweek context.
“We have gone three games without a win, and considering our objectives, we are taking each match very seriously. We are ready for the game on Sunday,” Ndhlovu said.
Team captain Lindo Mkhonta also shared the optimism of his coach, noting the positive response from the players during training.
“As ZESCO United players, we are ready for tomorrow’s game. The players have been responding well to the coaches’ instructions. We know we are playing away from home, but we will take each game as it comes,” he said.
The ABSA Cup champions anchor Group D of the Confederation Cup without a point after losing by 0-1 margins to leaders Zamalek and Chiefs then 2-3 to Al Masry.
