Al Hilal Omdurman coach Laurentiu Reghecampf has refused take credit for the Sudanese team’s resurgence in form in the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) group-stage.
The Rwanda-based side delivered a strong intent in the continental campaign after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 on Friday to go top of Group C of the continental league.

Yet Reghecampf deflected all the praise he is earning, suggesting that credit should go to his players for showing character and commitment.
“All congratulations for the players because they are the ones who work in the field. If see our performance in the last period against [Sundowns], we have players with character and good quality. They tried their best to do well in the game. I am only there to manage the players, to manage the puzzle and to manage the atmosphere,” the coach said.
The Romanian further acknowledged the warm receptions of the fans in the adopted home East African country.
“We have maybe two stadiums like that with fans watching on TV because they don’t have possibility to see the game. I am sure in the next period, maybe next game when we play against the big names, we will have a full stadium. This is very good for football and for Al Hilal fans,” Reghecampf added.
The Sudanese giants scored both goals in the first-half at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
Sundowns’ second-choice goalkeeper Denis Onyango contributed to Al Hilal’s opener. The Ugandan left his line late to challenge Abdelrazig Omer, in the process fouling him in the box. The referee pointed to the penalty spot for Al Hilal talisman Mohamed Abdelrahman to score.
Moments later on, winger Jean-Claude Girumugisha scored the second goal for the Rwanda-based hosts. The Burundian made the most of sloppy marking with many yellow shirts just static and ball-watching.
