Ogundu, whose move was announced on Monday, joins the midtable Bundesliga side from Turkish Süper Lig side Alanyaspor on a permanent transfer that keeps him with the club until 2031.
The Bundesliga side acquired the services of the 19-year-old for a reported fee of €4.5 million.
The striker only joined Alanyaspor from Şanlıurfaspor last summer. During his short stint in Turkey, the teenager recorded two goals and one assist in seventeen appearances across all competitions.

Ogundu is joining a club that has been actively recruiting young international talent to transition from a “selling club” to a more competitive mid-table force. He is expected to begin training with the first team immediately to prepare for their upcoming league fixtures.
Ogundu’s arrival represents a significant investment for Augsburg, a club that has increasingly focused on identifying and developing promising international players. Traditionally regarded as a selling club, Augsburg are now aiming to establish themselves as a stable and competitive mid-table force in the Bundesliga, capable of retaining key talents while remaining competitive against stronger opposition.
In their official announcement, the club highlighted Ogundu’s pace, technical ability, and attacking versatility, qualities that fit well with Augsburg’s current recruitment philosophy. The Nigerian forward is expected to link up with the first-team squad immediately and begin preparations for upcoming league fixtures.
Ogundu’s move to Germany comes just months after he joined Alanyaspor from Şanlıurfaspor during the summer transfer window. Despite his young age, the striker adapted quickly to life in Turkish football, earning valuable minutes in a competitive league known for its physical intensity and tactical demands.
During his brief spell with Alanyaspor, Ogundu made 17 appearances across all competitions, registering two goals and one assist. While the numbers may appear modest, his performances caught the attention of scouts due to his movement, willingness to take on defenders, and ability to stretch defensive lines. His standout moments, including a well-taken goal and assist earlier in the season, showcased his raw talent and hinted at his considerable upside.
Primarily deployed as a central striker, Ogundu is also comfortable operating across the front line, offering coaches tactical flexibility. He is known for his explosive acceleration, direct running, and ability to press defenders aggressively—traits that align well with the high-tempo demands of Bundesliga football.
At 19, Ogundu remains a work in progress, but his physical profile and technical foundation suggest he has the tools to develop into a reliable attacking option at the top level. Augsburg’s coaching staff are expected to focus on refining his decision-making and finishing, while gradually integrating him into the tactical structure of the team.
For Ogundu, the move to Germany represents a major milestone in his young career. The Bundesliga is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most development-friendly leagues, particularly for young attackers. The opportunity to train and compete at this level offers him the ideal environment to continue his growth and gain exposure on a larger stage.
The Nigerian striker will also be hoping that consistent performances in Germany could put him on the radar of Nigeria’s national team selectors in the future. With several young forwards emerging from the country, Ogundu’s progress at Augsburg will be closely followed by fans back home.
From Augsburg’s perspective, signing Ogundu on a contract until 2031 reflects a long-term vision rather than a short-term fix. The club have made it clear that they are building a squad capable of sustained Bundesliga stability, blending experienced players with emerging talents who can grow within the system.
Ogundu is expected to be eased into first-team action, with the coaching staff keen to manage expectations and allow him time to adapt to the pace and intensity of German football. His immediate focus will be on settling into the squad, understanding the tactical demands, and competing for minutes in attack.
