Al Ahly fail to recover form poor start in Nile League draw

Egyptian Nile League champions Al Ahly SC came back from an early deficit but dropped points in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with National Bank of Egypt (NBE SC).

Red Devils supporters got to see new striker Ieltsin Camões in action after the Angolan, on loan from Norwegian club Tromsø, was introduced for the final thirty minutes. In the end, it was Egypt national team forward Trezeguet who provided the equalizer for the visitors in the 81st minute. Receiving a pass from Hussein El Shahat in the penalty area, Trezeguet curled in a stunning strike.

But a poor first half resulted in a disappointing result in the end. Former Zamalek attacker Mostafa Shalaby put the hosts ahead inside the opening quarter hour to put the reigning champions on their heels. Shalaby arrived at the near post to redirect Ahmed Madbouli’s free kick past Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

A poor first half concluded with even worse news when Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” was forced off after thirty minutes. The favorites dominated possession but struggled to find a way past the NBE SC defense.

The moment finally arrived late on to leave the teams sharing the points. A focused team movement resulted in El Shahat receiving the ball on the left wing. The substitute found Trezeguet in the corner of the penalty area and he was able to find room to unleash a perfect strike that left NBE goalkeeper Abdelaziz El Balouti with no chance.

Ceramica Cleopatra remain the league leaders with a four-point gap separating them from Pyramids FC, who have two games in hand. Al Ahly are a point back of Pyramids and could fall behind rivals Zamalek if The White Castle win at Kahraba Ismaila on Wednesday.
