Confirming the transfer, Tranmere said in a statement on their official website: “Tranmere Rovers are delighted to announce that midfielder Zech Obiero has joined on loan from League One Leyton Orient until the end of the season.

‘He’s technically good, plays with energy and bravery.’

“Obiero, 21, began his youth career at Premier League Tottenham Hotspur before joining Leyton Orient at the age of 14. He has spent time on loan at non-League Cheshunt and Chelmsford City and has made 40 appearances for the O’s.”

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Obiero said: “I’m really happy to be here, excited to start a new journey and just ready to get going.

“I would say I’m more attacking-minded. I do like to work hard. I do like to track back. But more going forward, I dribble and get goals and assists. That’s more my game.”

Tranmere Andy Crosby said: “We’re really pleased to bring Zech in. He’s a young player with potential and a fantastic attitude. He’s technically good, plays with energy and bravery.

“We believe this is the perfect environment for him to continue his development, and we’re excited to help him take the next step in his career.”

Obiero has made four appearances for Richie Wellens’ side this season, most recently featuring off the bench in the 89th minute of their 4-0 win at Burton Albion on Saturday.

He scored his only goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Colchester United in the Vertu Trophy last season. So far, he has managed one cap for Kenya’s U-20 team.
