Magogo eyes CECAFA top seat as three-way race takes shape in Djibouti

Uganda’s FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo, is in contention for the CECAFA Presidency after making the final shortlist ahead of the regional body’s Elective General Assembly due this Saturday, February 7, in Djibouti.

Magogo is one of three candidates cleared to run for the top office, setting up a competitive race against Eritrea’s Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam and Burundi Football Federation president Alexandre Muyenge.

Beyond the presidential vote, the General Assembly will handle key administrative business, including the election of a vice president and executive committee members.

Delegates will also approve the CECAFA budget for 2026 and ratify the competitions calendar for the upcoming year.

Muyenge currently serves as CECAFA’s acting president, a role he assumed in September following the decision by South Sudan’s Augustino Maduot Parek to step aside.

Meanwhile, Andemariam, also in the presidential race, holds the position of acting vice president.

Uganda’s Jean Sseninde continues to serve as the acting Executive Director.

The gathering in Djibouti will bring together representatives from all 12 CECAFA member associations: Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan and Zanzibar.
