U-20 WWC (Q): Nigeria edge Senegal in third-round first-leg opener

The Nigeria U-20 women’s national team began their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup (U-20 WWC) third-round, first-leg qualifying clash with a 1-0 victory over Senegal on Saturday.

The match, played at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, was a closely contested encounter between two sides vying for a spot in the World Cup. Coach Moses Aduku’s Falconets and the Lionesses of Teranga held each other to a goalless first half, as neither side could find a breakthrough.

However, in the second half, substitute Kindness Ifeanyi broke the deadlock for the two-time FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup runners-up.

The tie remains open for both teams, with the return leg scheduled to take place in Dakar on Saturday, February 14th.
