Dango Ouattara contributed an assist and a late match-winning goal for visitors Brentford to help them escape St. James’ Park with an entertaining 3-2 Premier League victory at Newcastle United.
The Burkina Faso national team star’s 85th minute strike put the home supporters back into misery only minutes after a penalty kick from Bruno Guimarães restored parity for the hosts. Ouattara has now provided the match winner in back-to-back away victories for the Bees, bringing his total to 5 goals and 1 assist from 19 Premier League matches.
It was a back-and-forth clash to wrap up Saturday’s action from the English top flight. Guimarães set up Sven Botman for the opening goal to put Newcastle ahead.
However, a late surge before halftime saw the visitors take a surprise lead going into the break. In the 37th minute, it was Ouattara who sprinted down the left wing before placing his cross perfectly to find the head of Vitaly Janelt for a header past Magpies keeper Nick Pope. In stoppage time Igor Thiago converted from the penalty spot to complete the first half comeback.
The hosts renewed their efforts after halftime and fought back to get level through Guimarães’s penalty. Just when it appeared that Newcastle might be able to rally for a victory, the visitors’ Burkinabé star saw his shot sneak under Pope after running onto a clever pass from Mathias Jensen.
