Malawi: Bullets destroy Hammers to date Dynamos in Castel Cup final

FCB Big Bullets destroyed giant killers Ekwendeni Hammers with a 2-0 semifinal victory in the Castel Cup semi final played in Malawi commercial capital Blantyre on Sunday.

Attacker Wongani Lungu scored in either half at Kamuzu Stadium for the People’s Team to eliminate his former Mzuzu-based side, and date Goshen City Dedza Dynamos FC in the final of the national knockout Cup.

Hammers went into the match with a big reputation of causing major upsets after defeating previous holders Mighty Wanderers and another giant Silver Strikers.

However, on Sunday, the going proved to be tough. Lungu placed a low effort into the net in added time of the opening half. The former Hammers man delivered once again the hammer blow to Ekwendeni with yet another composed finish in the 72nd minute for Bullets to proceed to the final.

Who will Bullets face in Castel Cup final?

Dynamos FC qualified for their first-ever Castle Cup final after coming from behind in regulation time then post-match penalties to overcome Blue Eagles FC 4-3 in Blantyre on Saturday afternoon.

The semifinal seemed to be heading for a goalless draw in regulation time at Kamuzu Stadium.

However, all that changed in a flash when seasoned winger Micium Mhone scored for Eagles from a rebound in the 83rd minute.

Just as the policemen thought they had put one foot into the final, substitute Luke Chima pulled Dynamos from the depth of despair to level matters five minutes into added time.

The equalizer paved the way for the proceedings to go into the dreaded post-match penalties. Coach Alex Ngwira’s side missed its second and fourth spot-kicks by Christopher Phiri and Friday Osagie.

Sankhani Mkandawire, Bello Junior and Lanken Mwale spurned the Eagles’ efforts. The policemen converted their attempts through Maxwell Gustavo, Tonic Viyuyu and Gilbert Chirwa while Lughano Kaira
