Congolese powerhouse TP Mazembe have announced the mutual termination of the contract of Senegal defender, Abdoulaye Diedhiou.

Diédhiou joined the Congolese outfit last year on a two-year deal from Jaraaf de Dakar under coach Lamine Ndiaye who left the club last month on mutual grounds.

It was the 25-year-old’s debut experience in the Congolese league after posting a fine work in the Senegalese Ligue 1 where he won the national title.

Abdoulaye Diedhiou has three caps for senior team

A statement on the club’s website read: “TP Mazembe informs the sporting community and its supporters that player Abdoulaye Diedhiou and the club have mutually agreed to terminate their contract.

“The Senegalese central defender signed a mutual termination agreement this Saturday, February 7th, thus formalizing the separation between the two parties in a spirit of mutual respect.

“TP Mazembe thanks Abdoulaye Diedhiou for his professionalism during his time with the club and wishes him every success in his future endeavors. ”

The defender was influential when Senegal home-based team lifted their first Championship for African Nations (CHAN) tournament in Algeria under current senior team coach Pape Thiaw. He has just three appearances without scoring or assisting a goal for the Teranga Lions.

Abdoulaye Diedhiou’s Move to TP Mazembe

Abdoulaye Diedhiou joined TP Mazembe last year on a two-year contract from Senegalese giants ASC Jaraaf. His arrival was sanctioned by then-head coach Lamine Ndiaye, who has since left the club after mutually agreeing to end his own tenure last month.

The move to Mazembe marked Diedhiou’s first professional experience outside Senegal, and his debut in the Congolese Linafoot championship. Expectations were high following his impressive performances in the Senegalese Ligue 1, where he had previously won the national league title.

Abdoulaye Diedhiou’s Time in Congo

Despite his strong pedigree back home, Diedhiou found it difficult to secure regular playing time at TP Mazembe. Competition for places in the defensive line was intense, and the Senegalese centre-back made only a handful of appearances across all competitions.

While his impact on the pitch was limited, club officials maintained that Diedhiou remained professional and committed throughout his stay. His departure now opens the door for the player to seek a new challenge as he looks to revive his club career.

Abdoulaye Diedhiou’s International Pedigree

On the international stage, Abdoulaye Diedhiou is no stranger to success. The defender was a key member of Senegal’s home-based national team that lifted the Championship for African Nations (CHAN) title in Algeria — the first CHAN triumph in the country’s history.

That historic achievement came under the guidance of current Senegal senior national team coach Pape Thiaw, further underlining Diedhiou’s pedigree at continental level.

At senior international level, Diedhiou has earned three caps for the Senegal national football team, though he is yet to register a goal or assist for the Teranga Lions.
