Nigeria’s Falconets will travel to Dakar on Tuesday for the second leg of their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against the Lionesses of Senegal, missing star striker Janet Akekoromowei.

The Bayelsa Queens striker sustained an injury during the first leg of the qualifier at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta last Saturday, which the hosts won 1-0. Akekoromowei’s replacement, Kindness Ifeanyi, scored the winning goal in the 51st minute.

The 18-year-old will not recover in time for the reverse fixture, which is set to take place in Dakar this Saturday. The team’s early arrival in Dakar is intended to give the team adequate time to prepare for the crucial second leg tie.

A draw will be enough for them to advance to the final qualifying round, where they will face either Guinea-Bissau or Malawi.

Nigeria have qualified for every edition of the U-20 Women’s World Cup to date and will be looking to maintain that perfect record.
