Seidu Alidu: Stade Rennes defender reaches century Ligue 1 appearance

Ghana international Seidu Alidu reached a century appearance in the French Ligue during Rennes’ 3-1 defeat at Lens last weekend.

The right-back joined the fray as early as the 29th minute, replacing Moroccan defender Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal who sustained a muscle injury as Rennes suffered a 1-3 loss against Lens.

Alidu’s presence on the field marked his 37th league game for the Red and Blacks after previously featuring in 67 games during his stint with Clermont Foot, a side helped gain promotion before their return to Ligue 2 two seasons ago.

Sideu Alidu, 25, joined Stade Rennais in January 2024 from Clermont Foot, becoming a mainstay of the Red and Blacks during the 2023/24 league campaign. However, he spent most of this season on the sidelines after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The rugged defender, who can be deployed midfield, began his career at the Jean Marc-Guillou Academy [JMG] in Ivory Coast before being transferred to Clermont Foot in France where he played at the youth level for two years before gaining promotion to the senior side.

After four seasons with Clermont Foot’s senor side, he joined Stade Rennais in a deal until 2028 and has now played 15 matches in Ligue 1 and 18 in all competitions this campaign.

The Kumasi born defender is capped 17-times by Ghana’s senior side, scoring just a goal in the process.
