Barker impressed with Simba SC progress ahead of KMC FC clash

Simba SC head coach Steve Barker has said there are no easy matches in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League, stressing his players have been showing full commitment in every game to ensure the team continues to improve.

Speaking ahead of their next league assignment, Barker said his squad has laid a good foundation, with new players showing positive progress as they become more accustomed to the team’s system. He added preparations for the next game are progressing well and the goal is to ensure they get a win.

The Msimbazi Reds are scheduled to make a return to the domestic action on Wednesday when they take on KMC in their matchday eight fixture of the season.

Simba ready to beat KMC on Wednesday

“The preparations are good, the players are ready and tomorrow (Wednesday), we expect to fight to achieve the team’s goals,” Barker told Pan-Africa Football.

“We have dusted ourselves after the unwanted CAF Champions League campaign, we know we have one match left in the competition, but our focus has shifted to the league title chase. We want to win the league title, and must win our matches.”

The South African added: “You know Simba is a big club, and in a big club you have to win matches. We will do everything to start winning our matches and move up the table.”

Simba will not underrate KMC

For his part, Simba defender, David Kameta said that despite KMC being at the bottom of the league standings, they are not a team to be underestimated.

“We will not underestimate them, they are a strong team with quality players, we have to be very cautious and play our game,” said Kameta, who further explained the players have fully organised themselves to implement the instructions of the technical bench to ensure they get positive results.

Following their failure to reach Champions League knockout stages, Simba Media Officer Ahmed Ally confirmed they had shifted their full focus to domestic competitions.

“There is no time to rest because our focus now is on domestic competitions,” Ally said. “According to our programme, we return to action on Wednesday night when we face KMC in a Premier League match on April 11.

“It is important to recognise the improvement within our squad. There have been positive changes in terms of performance, attitude and cohesion. These are encouraging signs and they give us confidence as we return to domestic football.”

Simba are currently sitting sixth on the league table with 16 points from seven matches. They have won five matches, drawn one, and lost one.
