Simba SC returned to winning ways in Tanzania’s Ligi Kuu Bara on Wednesday with a 2-0 victory at Kinondoni Municipal Council while fellow CAF interclub competition participant Singida Black Stars also claimed three points earlier in the day.

Two goals at the end of the first half were enough for the Reds to stay within three points of main title rivals Young Africans. Libasse Gueye’s long range strike in stoppage time put the visitors beyond reach ten minutes after Seleman Mwalimu opened the scoring from a rebound.
Draws in each of their last two CAF Champions League matches, at home to Tunisia’s Espérance followed by a 1-1 result at Petro de Luanda, left Simba eliminated from contention to qualify for the quarterfinals. For coach Steve Barker, it was important to secure a domestic league victory ahead of their Champions League Group D finale at home against Stade Malien on Saturday.
Singida Black Stars were also eliminated from contention to advance in continental competition, making a win on Wednesday even more essential considering their struggles. Congolese midfielder Linda Mtange scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Fountain Gate, his first since joining from Congolese club champions Les Aigles du Congo.

Former Ghana international left back Imoro Ibrahim embarked on a trademark attacking run to get to the end line before crossing low for Mtange to finish shortly after the hour mark.
Shockingly, Singida had only won one match since late October ahead of Wednesday’s victory. A home defeat to Algerian club CR Belouizdad on Sunday condemned them to elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup, where they were only able to defeat Congo-Brazzaville club AS Otôho in Group C.
They move up to 13th place on the Ligi Kuu Bara table, with plenty of games in hand on the majority of the competition to move up the table.
Action continues from the league over the next two days with current leaders JKT Tanzania among the teams who will participate. They will host Coastal Union on Friday.
