Wiki Tourists fined for breaching NPFL matchday conduct

Wikki Tourists Football Club has been charged with breaching the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Rules and Framework during its dramatic matchday 25 home fixture against Katsina United on Sunday.

​The charges follow the club’s failure to provide adequate security, which allowed unauthorized persons to gain access to restricted areas of the stadium. The NPFL also noted that during the match, Wikki Tourists supporters displayed unsporting behavior that disrupted play, forcing the game to be concluded on Monday.

​Furthermore, supporters threw dangerous objects, including stones, onto the pitch at away players and match officials. The Bauchi-based club failed to ensure the proper conduct of its fans, resulting in harassment, loss of property, and physical injuries to match officials and Katsina United staff.

The Giant Elephant have now been fined ₦2 million for inadequate security, ₦1.5 million imposed compensatory and medical fee, including ₦250,000 for the referee’s lost whistle, ₦250,000 for his medical treatment, and ₦500,000 each for injured medical personnel and a Katsina United official.

Also a fine of ₦1 million for unsporting behaviour capable of bringing the game to disrepute, and another₦1 million fine for throwing dangerous objects onto the pitch.

Furthermore for holding the match officials and away team hostage for several hours after the match and causing an 18-minute delay before the match was restarted a ₦2 million was handed out.

Additionally, the NPFL has ordered an indefinite change of venue; all Wikki Tourists home matches will now be played at the New Jos Stadium. The club has 48 hours from the date of notification to lodge an appeal.
