Fan favorite Nasser Mansy received a pass from Brazilian attacker Juan Alvina and fired in the only goal of the match in the 77th minute. The forward’s fourth goal in all competitions was enough in a match where the visitors from Alexandria created few opportunities.
The 14-time Egyptian club champions remain level with Pyramids on 31 points, one ahead of Al Ahly and four behind leaders Ceramica Cleopatra who have played one more match. Earlier on Wednesday, Ahly defeated Ismaily while Pyramids edged ENPPI 2-1 courtesy of two goals from Nasser Maher.
In the other later match of the day, Al Masry were held to a 1-1 draw by Wadi Degla. Omar El Saaiy’s goal early in the second half was cancelled out by Danijel Miškić, who converted from the penalty spot for his first goal in the Wadi Degla shirt.
Zamalek SC maintained their relentless pursuit of the Egyptian Nile League title on Wednesday, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Smouha SC. The narrow win ensures the White Knights stay neck-and-neck with rivals Pyramids FC and Al Ahly in one of the most competitive seasons in recent Egyptian football history.
The 14-time league champions were made to sweat by a disciplined Alexandria-based outfit, but the individual brilliance of a fan favorite proved to be the difference.

The match at the Cairo International Stadium appeared to be heading toward a frustrating stalemate for the home side. Despite controlling 65% of the possession, Zamalek struggled to break down a Smouha defense that sat deep and looked to strike on the counter-attack.
The deadlock was finally shattered in the 77th minute. Brazilian playmaker Juan Alvina, who has become a focal point of the Zamalek attack since his arrival, threaded a delicate pass through the heart of the Smouha defense. Nasser Mansy latched onto the ball, took one touch to steady himself, and unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner.
It was Mansy’s fourth goal of the season across all competitions, further cementing his reputation as the “Savior” of the White Knights. His ability to produce goals in high-pressure situations has made him an indispensable asset for the technical staff this term.
Zamalek’s coach opted for a high-pressing system, forcing Smouha back into their own third for much of the 90 minutes. However, the visitors from Alexandria, while creating few clear-cut opportunities, remained compact.
The substitution of Juan Alvina earlier in the second half proved to be a masterstroke. His vision and technical flair provided the spark that the Zamalek midfield had been lacking in the first hour. While Smouha goalkeeper El Hany Soliman made several key saves, he could do nothing about Mansy’s thunderous finish.
Defensively, Zamalek looked composed. The backline, anchored by veteran presence, restricted Smouha to just two shots on target throughout the entire match.
Wednesday was a pivotal day for the Egyptian heavyweights, as all three major contenders secured victories.
Zamalek remain level with Pyramids FC on 31 points.
Pyramids FC earned their points earlier in the day with a 2-1 win over ENPPI, thanks to a brace from Nasser Maher.
Al Ahly sit just one point behind on 30 points after defeating Ismaily in a high-stakes clash.
Ceramica Cleopatra currently lead the standings with 35 points, though they have played one more match than the chasing pack.
The consistency of the top four teams suggests that the 2025/26 season could go down to the final matchday. You can view the full live standings here: Egyptian Nile League Table.
In the day’s other late fixture, Al Masry were left frustrated after being held to a 1-1 draw by Wadi Degla. The Port Said-based club took the lead early in the second half through a well-taken goal by Omar El Saaiy.
However, Wadi Degla showed remarkable resilience. They were awarded a penalty late in the game, which was calmly converted by Danijel Miškić. The goal marked Miškić’s first in a Wadi Degla shirt and secured a vital point for the underdogs, denting Al Masry’s hopes of climbing into the top three.
Zamalek will now turn their focus to the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup fixtures before returning to domestic action. If Nasser Mansy can maintain this scoring form and Juan Alvina continues to pull the strings in midfield, the fans have every reason to believe that title number 15 is within reach.
