Premier League: Hannibal Mejbri sparks remarkable Burnley turnaround at Palace

Premier League relegation candidates Burnley came back from the dead on Wednesday to register a crucial 3-2 victory away from home at Crystal Palace.

After falling behind by two goals, Tunisia national team midfielder Hannibal Mejbri started the rally as the visitors scored three goals at the end of the first half in the eventual victory. After a 16-match winless streak in the league, the shocking comeback is a hopeful sign for a club that hasa struggled massively.

Jorgen Strand Larsen scored twice in the opening 33 minutes to put hosts Palace on course for a routine victory. However, the Tunisian received a pass from Marcus Edwards in the penalty area and curled in the first goal for the visitors in the 40th minute.

Jaidon Anthony then struck for The Clarets before Jefferson Lerma’s own goal left home supporters shocked and dismayed.

The visitors, now in the lead, went on the defensive for the second half and were more than willing to concede possession to the hosts. Palace spent most of the second 45 minutes camped in the opposition half but failed to find a way past goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Wednesday’s strike marked the first top flight goal in England for Hannibal since he was with Manchester United during the 2023-24 season. He has struggled to find good form since returning from national team duty with Tunisia at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations but delivered a crucial moment in his second consecutive start.

The Clarets will now turn to cup duties with Saturday’s FA Cup clash at home against League One club Mansfield Town.
