CAF concludes latest inspection of venues to host 2027 AFCON

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) wrapped up a two-day inspection process of venues in set to be used for 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 36th edition of the African tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is scheduled to be hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 18.

This edition of the AFCON tournament remains the first to be hosted by three countries, and the first in five decades to be organised in the CECAFA region, since it was hosted by Ethiopia in 1976.

FKF confirms end of inspection tour

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed confirmed the conclusion of the inspection, which also saw the visiting CAF inspection team tour Uganda, and Tanzania for the same.

“CAF officials, led by Dr. Christian Emeruwa, head of security and Ms. Stephanie Totokra in charge of infrastructure, have concluded a 2 days inspection at the Talanta Sports City, Nyayo Stadium, Ulinzi Complex, Kasarani Stadium and Police Sacco stadiums together with FKF and LOC representatives, prioritising safety, security, and infrastructure readiness for AFCON 2027,” wrote Mohammed on his social media pages.

“The inspections demonstrate FKF and the government’s commitment to strengthening football infrastructure, positioning Kenya for success during AFCON 2027 and beyond.”

CAF inspected all East African nations

The inspection visits by the technical experts kicked off last week and as CAF applied its strict, world-class delivery standards.

These include technical assessments covering pitch requirements, as well as safety, security and infrastructure readiness at key match and training venues earmarked for use during the tournament.

Inspections began in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania with the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and several designated training sites being inspected. The mission then continued to Arusha for an inspection of Samia Suluhu Stadium.

In Zanzibar, CAF experts were expected to inspect Amaan Stadium and Fumba Stadium, a venue that the Tanzania Local Organising Committee (LOC) has earmarked for the tournament.

In Kenya, the CAF team conducted a series of inspections at Kasarani Stadium, Nyayo Stadium and Talanta Sport Stadium, as well as key training sites such as the Ulinzi Sport Complex and the Kenya Academy of Sports.

Uganda’s inspection programme included Entebbe and Kampala, with visits to Mandela National Stadium and designated training sites.The CAF delegation also travelled to Hoima to inspect Hoima City Stadium.
