OFFICIAL: Former Pirates star Olisa Ndah finds new home

Stellenbosch FC have officially confirmed the acquisition of former Orlando Pirates star defender Olisa Ndah, ending the speculation surrounding the Nigerian international’s future.

The 28-year-old joins the Maroons as a free agent on a deal that will see him play under the guidance of veteran coach Gavin Hunt. Ndah’s arrival follows an amicable departure from the Buccaneers during the January transfer window, where he spent four-and-a-half successful, albeit injury-interrupted, seasons.

Olisa Ndah A Proven Winner for Stellies

Ndah arrives in the Cape Winelands with a glistening CV, having helped Orlando Pirates secure three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups during his 81 appearances for the Soweto giants. Despite being a fan favourite at Orlando, a long-term injury and the emergence of the Lebone Seema-Nkosinathi Sibisi partnership limited his game time, leading to his mutual exit.

Stellenbosch CEO Rob Benadie expressed his delight at securing a player of Ndah’s calibre to bolster a defence that is looking to stabilise following the club’s exit from the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.

“Olisa is a player with proven quality and experience at the highest level, and we are pleased to welcome him to Stellenbosch FC,” Benadie said. “We are deliberate in our recruitment strategy to ensure that every signing complements the group, and having had the chance to assess him closely, we are confident he will be a valuable addition to our squad.”

The Nigerian Connection

Ndah’s move to the Danie Craven Stadium strengthens the club’s growing Nigerian contingent. He becomes the fourth player from the Super Eagles’ nest to represent the Maroons, joining current teammates Ibraheem Jabaar and Kazie Enyinnaya, as well as former forward Stanley Dimgba.

The highly-rated center-back, who will don the No. 99 jersey, has already been training under Hunt’s watchful eye and is reportedly back to full fitness.

The club has indicated that Ndah could be in line for an immediate debut as Stellies prepare to host Magesi FC in a Betway Premiership encounter on Wednesday evening at the Danie Craven Stadium.

With a crucial Nedbank Cup Last 16 tie against Golden Arrows looming this weekend, Hunt will be banking on Ndah’s experience to guide the Winelands side toward a strong finish in the second half of the campaign.
