Botola Pro: Late push secures victorious return to domestic action for RS Berkane

After a hiatus from domestic league play that stretched over three months, reigning Botola Pro champions RS Berkane returned to action in Morocco’s top flight with a 2-1 victory at Renaissance Zemamra on Wednesday.

The Orange Boys faced an opponent that was eager to boost their position but perhaps showed too much enthusiasm. The hosts were reduced to ten players in the 27th minute when Marouane Oujeddou chased a loose ball and recklessly went in too high on RSB defender Abdelhak Assal.

But the visitors struggled to capitalize on their numerical advantage and RCA did well to keep the match even until the final fifteen minutes.

Needing a goal late on, star forward Oussama Lamlioui rose to the occasion with a brave finish from Amine Azri’s cross following a short corner kick in the 81st minute. Youssef Mehri finished off the victory in the 90th minute when he chased down a midfield pass from Imad Riahi and scored his first goal of the 2025-26 campaign. The hosts did find a late consolation in stoppage time.

Despite the victory, the reigning champions are still behind the pace set by Morocco’s other CAF interclub participants. Wydad Casablanca are tied at the top of the table with 20 points from 8 matches and have played less games than the other three teams on 20 points including rivals Raja.

Berkane are six points back with 14 points from 7 matches. Action will continue with a full slate of matches over the weekend beginning on Friday. RSB will return on Sunday when they host Rabat club Fath Union Sport.
