Tunisian newspaper Assabah has reported that negotiations between Espérance Sportive de Tunis and French coach Patrice Beaumelle have hit a stumbling block.
Beaumelle, the former head coach of the Angola national football team, had been very close to taking charge of Esperance after recently parting ways with Angola. The report states that despite the coach being in Tunisia for the past three days, talks have stalled due to key disagreements.
According to Assabah, a new round of negotiations is expected in an attempt to resolve the outstanding issues and finalize the contract. The main points of contention reportedly concern the duration of the contract and specific clauses related to termination rights for both parties.
ES Tunis have a crucial CAF Champions League quarter-final clash against Al Ahly next month, increasing the urgency to settle the managerial situation.
Beaumelle previously worked as an assistant to his compatriot Hervé Renard with the national teams of Morocco national football team, Zambia national football team, and Ivory Coast national football team. He later went on to manage Ivory Coast, as well as clubs including USM Alger and Umm Salal SC, before his most recent spell with Angola.
ES Tunis officially announced the departure of head coach Maher Kanzari following the team’s defeat to Stade Malien in the penultimate round of the CAF Champions League group stage.
However, the Tunisian giants managed to secure qualification to the quarter-finals after defeating Atlético Petróleos de Luanda in the final group-stage match.
