Zamalek left it late but secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Haras El Hodoud on Friday evening in Round 18 of the Egyptian League at Cairo International Stadium.
For much of the contest, the White Knights struggled to break down Haras El Hodoud defense, with the game appearing destined to end in a stalemate. However, Zamalek managed to score in the closing stages.
The breakthrough arrived in the 84th minute through substitute Ahmed Fattouh. The goal stemmed from a cross delivered by Bentayg, which Fattouh met with a header that found the back of the net giving his team a 1-0 lead.
Just six minutes later, Zamalek sealed the win. Fattouh turned provider this time, sending a long ball forward that found Nasser Mansi. Spotting goalkeeper El Zanfoly off his line, Mansi fired a strike from outside the penalty area into the net to make it 2-0.
The late double ensured the White Knights claimed three valuable points, moving them back into second place in the league standings with 34 points — level with Pyramids FC. Meanwhile, Al Ahly SC dropped to fourth place, while Ceramica Cleopatra FC continue to lead the table with 35 points with one game played more than the others.
