Hearts of Oak sold out a goalless draw against Berekum Chelsea in week 23 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

Hearts of Oak were the better side throughout the first quarter of the game with swift play at the wings but Berekum Chelsea cleverly defended their lines at the Legon Sports Stadium.

Berekum Chelsea, who are yet to win a game against Hearts of Oak since coach Samuel Boadu joined them, remained a pale shadow of themselves, struggling to reach their opponent’s final third.

Mawuli Wayo curved a fine opportunity goal bound but Berekum Chelsea keeper Eric Ofori Antwi parried the effort into corner which Hearts of Oak wasted.

Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong came out of his shells with a powerful drive but Hearts keeper Benjamin Asare palmed the ferocious drive over the bar for the visitors’ corner kick in the 38th minute.

Hearts of Oak took control of the last minutes with blistering attacks that brought a flurry of corner kicks but they were eventually wasted.

The opening ten minutes of the second half was evenly slugged out with both Hearts and Berekum Chelsea testing each other.

Hearts of Oak attacker Mawuli Wayo fluffed a glorious set up by Frank Duku in Berekum Chelsea penalty area twelve minutes into the second half, a miss that left the home fans in displeasure.

The game was halted momentarily when Hearts of Oak fans threw objects on to the pitch in protest of a clearly disallowed penalty following a foul on Mawuli Wayo in the 67th.

Hearts of Oak came close to opening the flood gates one more time but Mawuli Wayo missed Amankwaa Baafi’s low cross across the area moments later.

With four minutes of added time exhausted, Hearts of Oak and Berekum Chelsea shared the spoils.

Hearts of Oak now have 40 points in third on the league table with Berekum Chelsea occupying the 15th position with 27 points after 23 games.

League leaders Medeama’s quest to stretch their lead was dealt a blow when they were held to a goalless draw at Samartex.

Record holders Asante Kotoko redeemed their image following a 2-0 win at Young Apostles after suffering a 1-0 loss to rivals Hearts of Oak last week.
