Young Africans head coach Pedro Goncalves has called on his players to be more efficient in front of the goal as they prepare to face JKT Tanzania in a Mainland Premier League fixture at KMC Stadium on Wednesday.
The Citizens continued with their push to reach the summit of the table following a 1-0 win against Namungo FC in their last assignment. Meanwhile, JKT Tanzania will come into the fixture having drawn 1-1 against Coastal Union.

Speaking ahead of the game, the former Angola national team coach called on his players to turn their chances into goals, pointing at the team’s performance against Namungo which produced one goal.
“We need to be more efficient,” said Goncalves. “When you miss one, two, three, four chances against a team that is compact, solid and intense, especially at home, it becomes dangerous. If you don’t score the second goal, the match is always open and the opponent continues to believe.”
Looking at Yanga’s schedule, he said: “The schedule is not easy for us but we must compete in every match and continue fighting for positive results.”
Revisiting the Namungo game, he said: “I think we managed the match very well. We started strongly, pressing high and arriving in the opponent’s area. Maybe we didn’t finish as much as we wanted early on, but we were often around their box and creating pressure.
“We only conceded one real chance, a shot from outside the box,” Gonçalves pointed out. “That shows good organization and focus.”
He concluded: “First of all, I want to say a big thank you to the supporters. It was amazing. I don’t know where they came from, but they pushed us a lot. In the dressing room, we said we needed to conquer those three points for these people. In the end, this win is for them.”
Yanga are currently sitting second on the table with 25 points, and a win against JKT will send them joint top with Tanzania Prisons, who have 28 points.
