Chinzimu: ‘I dislike the weather in Sweden’

After delivering her finest performance in Europe on Monday, Malawian Faith Chinzimu has opened up on her exploits, the good on and off the pitch, including the cold weather.

The 19-year-old, whose brace in the 2-0 victory over Angola fired Malawi to their maiden Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals last October, was in her true elements in Sweden.

Chinzimu struck twice and provided two assists, joining seven different scorers for BK Häcken as they dispatched Gefle 11-0 on the road in the Swedish Women’s Cup Round of 2.

There were further goals from Paulina Nyström (brace), Thelma Pálmadóttir, Tilde Karlsson, Alva Selerud, Halimatu Ayinde, Nesrin Akgün and a double from Felicia Schröder.

What scoring double for BK Häcken means to Chinzimu

Chinzimu, speaking to BK Häcken media, reflected on what scoring a double for her Swedish employers meant to her club and career.

“I think we started the match with high intensity. At the beginning of the second-half, we slowed down a bit but after ten minutes, we raised the intensity again, it was good that we did that,” she said.

“It was a good victory and a good start to the competition season. Now, we will continue like this. I think my performance was good. I created goal chances, which was good, and I had fun when I played. It was a nice feeling to score. It gives me confidence.”

Chinzimu joined BK Häcken at the beginning of August last year from Lilongwe-based Ascent Academy and now feels at home in the Scandinavian country, although weather remains a challenge.

What Chinzimu likes and does not like about Sweden

“It feels good to live in Hisingen, where nice people live. But I don’t like the weather right now. The next step for me is to push myself to become a better player than I am today. I want to help my teammates score goals,” she added.

The Malawian is expected to be in action when her club welcomes Linköping FC on Wednesday, March 11.

Thereafter, Chinzimu will fly to Malawi to join WAFCON camp training as the clock ticks towards the kick-off of the tournament on March 17 in Morocco.

The Scorchers were drawn in Group C alongside defending champions Nigeria, Zambia and Egypt.
