Tusker FC coach Julien Mette claims first win, Shabana move third

Tusker FC new coach Julien Mette registered his first FKF Premier League victory following a hard-fought 1-0 win against struggling Murang’a Seal at Wanguru Stadium in Meru on Wednesday.

The French tactician arrived to replace Charles Okere, and in his first game in charge, the Brewers lost 1-0 away to Shabana FC at Gusii Stadium. His second game in charge came against Murang’a Seal.

Ibrahim Joshua’s first-half strike proved decisive as Tusker picked victory, their first since January 25, when they defeated KCB 2-1. Since the win against the Bankers, Tusker had gone for three straight matches without a win.

Tusker had gone for three matches without win

Tusker drew 1-1 against Posta Rangers, lost 3-1 against Mathare United, and lost 1-0 against Shabana. Against Murang’a, the Brewers played a better game, with their first chance of the game being wasted by striker Eric Kapaito.

Five minutes later, Stephen Etyang found Eugen Ikutwa with a superb cross, but the latter hit the woodwork. Tusker continued to press and they finally scored what turned out to be the winner in the 26th minute.

Etyang, who was later injured and subbed off, found Joshua with a perfect cross, and the Tanzanian striker evaded two defenders before stabbing the ball into the net.

The win enabled Tusker to move one place up to position eighth with 31 points from 22 matches. The Brewers have won nine matches, drawn four, and lost nine.

Shabana scored late to beat Mathare United

In another fixture, Shabana moved third with the same number of points as AFC Leopards following their late 1-0 win against Mathare United at Nyayo Stadium.

Tore Bobe captain George Onyango headed home with the last kick off the game to ensure the Kisii-based Glamour Boys registered their eleventh win of the season.

Shabana are now on 40 points amassed from 11 wins, seven draws, and four defeats.
