AFC Leopards’ FKF Premier League title aspirations suffered a huge blow following their 1-0 defeat against KCB at Nyayo Stadium on Thursday.
The outcome dented Ingwe’s campaign to win their first title in 29 years. AFC Leopards went into the game with a run of six matches without their defeat.
Ingwe’s last defeat in the league came against Kakamega Homeboyz on January 4, a fixture they lost 1-0. Since then, they started an unbeaten run with 2-0 win against promoted side Nairobi United before hammering Tusker 4-0.
AFC Leopards followed Tusker’s win with a 2-1 victory against APS Bomet, before winning the battle of ‘Cats’ after downing Sofapaka 1-0.
Ingwe later travelled to Mombasa where they secured a 0-0 draw against Bandari FC, but returned home to defeat Posta Rangers 2-1 before the 1-0 defeat against the Bankers.
Against the Bankers, David Sakwa scored the all-important goal to end Ingwe’s good run, and dent their title aspirations. The defeat left AFC Leopards second on the table but six points behind record champions Gor Mahia.
Ingwe have garnered 40 points from 21 matches. They have managed 11 wins, seven draws, and three defeats. Their next assignment will be against Shabana, who have been on a good run, and are sitting third with 40 points.
Shabana FC captain George Onyango has already warned AFC Leopards to anticipate a tough game at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

“We appreciate our fans for their support. They have been with us through thick and thin, and the best way to reward them is by winning matches to keep motivating them,” said Onyango after their win against Mathare United.
“On Sunday, I am urging all Shabana fans to turn up in their numbers because we will make them happy and will give them three points at the end.”
He added: “It is something we have been doing in training, and today we had to be patient. We knocked severally in the game without success, but we waited for the right time and struck when it mattered most. I am glad it paid off.”
On his goal against Mathare, he said: “It feels good to score after a very long time, especially against Mathare, who have been a thorn in our flesh. It is relieving to be back playing regularly after a long spell on the sidelines, and hopefully I can stay fit through the season.”
The FKF Premier League will continue on Saturday with Gor Mahia taking on Mathare United.
