Malawi champions Wanderers reward coach Mpinganjira with new deal

Having delivered the core mandate of winning Malawi’s domestic league crown, Mighty Wanderers have recognised the achievement of their coach Bob Mpinganjira.

In a statement, the TNM Super League (now FDH Premiership) defending champions announced the extension of Mpinganjira’s contract by two years.

Why Mpinganjira earned the contract renewal

“We are pleased to announce that head coach Bob Mpinganjira has agreed to a two-year contract extension at Mighty Wanderers FC,” reads part of the statement. “Mpinganjira will be in charge of Malawi’s football champions until March 2028.”

The 2026-2027 CAF Champions League representatives for Malawi also announced the renewal of assistant coach McDonald Mtetemera’s contract by two years.

“Assistant coach Macdonald Mtetemera will remain at Lali Lubani Road for the next 24 months until March 2028,” adds the statement.

The coaching duo delivered the Super League title at Wanderers for the first time since 2017 to make it seven championships overall, one behind the tally of Silver Strikers and 10 behind rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.

How Wanderers coaches performed in cup games

While Mpinganjira and his deputy impressed, losing only once in the league 1-0 to relegated Ekwendeni City Hammers during the entire 2025 season, the Nomads failed to complement that with any available cup, including surrendering the Castel Challenge Cup to Bullets.

The People’s Team also bagged the Airtel Top 8 cup while Strikers claimed the FDH Cup after edging Wanderers in the final via post-match penalties. The season is on a recess in Malawi with kick-off of the 2026-27 campaign scheduled for May.
