Mohafe targets Pirates after Polokwane City victory over Magesi FC

After overcoming Magesi FC on Friday, Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe has expressed his wish ahead of the clash against Orlando Pirates.

The coach gave a forecast on the next assignment against the Buccaneers while explaining what their 2-0 victory over Magesi FC in South Africa’s top-flight league means.

“Let me start by appreciating the efforts of the boys. They played better football even though we started with huffing and puffing by just playing aerial balls,” Mohafe said.

“After some 10 minutes, we spoke to them to start building up and play from the back. I appreciate the efforts of the boys. We were in the match 100 percent, and we gave it our all.”

What Mohafe felt Polokwane lacked against Magesi

Despite the victory over Dikwena tša Meetse, the 51-year-old bemoaned failure to put away the many chances created.

“We scored the second goal from a set-piece; what a scorcher, and we missed a couple of shots on goal,” Mohafe noted. “We could have won the game by a margin of five or six goals, but luck was not on our side in terms of finishing. The other thing was decision-making on where to play the ball in the box.”

What Mohafe wants Polokwane to maintain

The Rise and Shine coach explained his team’s areas of improvement going into Wednesday’s meeting with Pirates in the Betway Premiership.

“We were able to attack and defend, so in both aspects of the box, we did very well. We should take this momentum going into the Pirates match. It is a game booster [ahead of] Pirates,” he added.

City lie in seventh place with 28 points from 18 matches, 10 points behind the second-placed Pirates who trail leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on goal-aggregate.
