The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) is contemplating the option of handing in an official request to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for Tunisia to take part in the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament. The tournament will be hosted by Egypt in April after Ivory Coast withdrew from hosting last week.
The logic behind FTF’s request is that the withdrawal of Ivory Coast and Egypt’s participation opens up a place to be filled from North Africa’s sub-region, the Union of North African Football (UNAF). Tunisia finished third in the 2024 UNAF U-20 tournament behind Morocco and Egypt as they came just short of a place at the U-20 AFCON finals.
Since Ivory Coast withdrew their rights to host the tourney FTF will now seek to participate in the competition which is set to commence on April 27 and run until May 18. FTF is yet to hand over their official request to CAF as per Tunisian media outlet La Presse.
