Ohizu’s late heroics sink TS Galaxy as draws dominate Saturday night action

Chibuike Ohizu was the hero of the hour at the Free State Stadium as his second-half strike secured a vital 1-0 victory for Siwelele FC over TS Galaxy on Saturday evening.

While the action in Bloemfontein provided a winner, it was a night of stalemates elsewhere as Golden Arrows, Chippa United, Orbit College, and Richards Bay FC all settled for goalless draws in their respective Betway Premiership encounters.

Siwelele find their rhythm via Ohizu

Entering the clash on the back of a sterile 0-0 draw with Polokwane City, Siwelele were desperate to find their scoring boots. They faced a TS Galaxy side brimming with confidence after a shock 2-0 Nedbank Cup victory over Mamelodi Sundowns, but TS Galaxy struggled to ignite in the Free State.

The goal was Ohizu’s first this season in the league.

After a sluggish first half where both sides lacked urgency, the breakthrough finally arrived in the 78th minute. Ohizu capitalised on a lapse in the Galaxy defence to slot home the winner. The result moves Siwelele to 11th on the log with 21 points from 18 matches, marking their fifth win of the campaign.

Stalemate at King Goodwill Zwelithini

In Durban, the clash between Golden Arrows and Chippa United failed to live up to its billing, ending in a 0-0 draw. Abafana Bes’thende entered the game in high spirits following a string of victories across the league and the Nedbank Cup, but they were thwarted by a resilient “Chilli Boys” outfit.

Arrows had the better of the chances in the opening period, but Angelo Van Rooi and Mfanuvela Mafuleka were unable to convert. At the other end, Justice Figuareido and Azola Matrose wasted opportunities for Chippa. The point takes Arrows to 21 points in 10th place, while Chippa United sit in 13th with 19 points.

Richards Bay frustrated by Orbit College

The goal drought continued at Olympia Park Stadium, where Orbit College held Richards Bay FC to a goalless draw. Despite the Natal Rich Boyz enjoying the lion’s share of possession and dictating the tempo for much of the match, they were unable to breach the Orbit College defence.

The match was characterised by missed opportunities and a lack of clinical finishing in the final third, leaving both sides with a single point to show for their efforts.
