Zamalek SC secured a vital 1–0 victory over Pyramids FC to move clear at the summit of the Egyptian League for the 2025–26 season.
The highly anticipated clash, held at 30 June Stadium (Air Defense Stadium), was decided by a single goal from the penalty spot, enough to break the tie at the top of the table.
The breakthrough came in the 56th minute. Nasser Mansi capitalized on a misplaced pass from Ahmed Samy to his goalkeeper, intercepting the ball before being brought down inside the box. Following a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty.
Hossam Abdelmaguid stepped up and confidently converted from the spot, giving Zamalek a crucial lead that ultimately proved decisive.
With the win, Zamalek climb to 40 points, moving three points clear at the top of the league standings. Meanwhile, Pyramids remain second on 37 points after missing the opportunity to stay level in the title race.
Zamalek’s rise to the top comes despite significant off-field challenges this season. The club has been dealing with a severe financial crisis, which has led to transfer bans in multiple FIFA cases and forced the sale of two key players during the winter transfer window.
Yet, on the pitch, the White Knights continue to deliver. In addition to leading the domestic league, Zamalek have also booked their place in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, where they are set to face Congolese side AS Otohô.
