A Castle Challenge Cup encounter in Zimbabwe was momentarily brought to a standstill on Sunday as a former Kaizer Chiefs striker stole the spotlight with an emotional, albeit unauthorised, tribute to Khama Billiat.

In a scene that left the Rufaro Stadium crowd stunned, Kelvin Mushangazhike—who donned the famous Gold and Black of Amakhosi as a striker in the early 2000s—sprinted onto the pitch to embrace Billiat. The “hug of the decade” was short-lived, however, as alert marshals swiftly escorted the former striker off the field to allow play to resume.

Despite the breach of protocol, Billiat took to social media to acknowledge the veteran’s gesture, posting: “I truly appreciate you, elder. Much Respect.”

On the pitch, the drama was equally one-sided. The 2025 League champions, Scottland FC, sent a chilling warning to their rivals by demolishing Dynamos 5-0 to lift the first silverware of the 2026 campaign.

The star-studded outfit, managed by Mamelodi Sundowns legend Peter Ndlovu and coached by former Chippa United mentor Norman Mapeza, proved far too clinical for a hapless DeMbare side. Goals from Knowledge Musona, Walter Musona, Tymon Machope, and Emmanuel Ziocha set the tone before Billiat—introduced as a 60th-minute substitute—put the icing on the cake with a clinical 89th-minute strike.

The victory caps off a glitzy week for the Harare-based club, which included a high-profile kit unveiling on Friday featuring American rap mogul Rick Ross. The “Biggest Boss” was a special guest of the club’s owner, adding a layer of international glamour to the club’s 2026 launch.

With the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League set to kick off on March 6, Scottland FC have firmly established themselves as the team to beat. Beyond domestic dominance, Mapeza’s men are also preparing for a daunting 2026/27 CAF Champions League campaign.

While former Orlando Pirates man Terrence Dzvukamanja was absent from the matchday squad, the depth of the Scottland roster suggests they remain the front-runners to retain their crown.
