Niger: Player data leak sparks outrage from players’ association

The Nigerien Footballers Association has denounced the act of disseminating personal information of players by some of the country’s football stakeholders. The West African nation has been rocked by players’ data forgery in recent times.

According to the Niger Press Agency, the association that represents players of the country stated its dissatisfaction over the recent chain of events in which personal data of players were circulating in the media.

The association president, Mahaman Laouali, expressed his concern. “The country Footballers Association wishes to express its deep concern and indignation at the resurgence of practices contrary to ethics and confidentiality rules, consisting of publicly disseminating personal information about players.”

in February, French journalist Romain Molina broke the news that a the country player had registered with two different ages. According to Molina, a the country U-21 national team player named Salifou Danja had two different registered ages with the national team and his club, AS Renaissance. Other players were said to be using two different ages as the Nigerien Football Federation failed to curb the incident.

Laouali vehemently opposed the leaking of such data and blamed unnamed football administrators for the fiasco: “It has been observed that some leaders, or rather so-called leaders, in contempt of their responsibilities and the dignity of footballers, allow themselves to make sensitive data such as civil status documents, administrative information, or even elements strictly relating to private life public.”
