Rabat giants AS FAR established their credentials as title contenders on Wednesday evening with a 2-1 victory in Casablanca against Wydad AC in Morocco’s top flight Botola Pro.
Youssef El Fahli crouched down to head Les Militaires to victory after excellent work from Abdelfettah Hadraf on the right wing. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the first half before El Fahli’s 62nd minute goal proved to be the difference.
An own goal gave the Royal Army club the lead inside twenty minutes when Wydad midfielder Walid Sabbar attempted to clear a cross but put the ball into the roof of his own net.
But the teams were back level after a moment of brilliance from Hakim Ziyech. The former Chelsea attacker recevied the ball on the right wing and darted past a couple of defenders before unleashing a fierce effort from distance that proved to be too much for AS FAR goalkeeper Ayoub El Khayati.
In the end, it was the fierce team spirit and defense of the club from the capital that overcame the high-priced stars of the Casablanca giants. The result moves the victors to within one point of Wednesday’s opponents, who trail rivals Raja by only a point with a few games in hand.
Reigning champions RS Berkane returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Hassania Agadir (HUSA). Youssef Mehri’s first half goal put the Orange Boys ahead by halftime and Mounir Chouiar doubled the advantage shortly after the hour mark. HUSA found a late consolation through former Zamalek winger Mohammed Ounajem.

An underwhelming start to 2026 has left RSB on the outside looking in at the moment when it comes to the title chase. However, despite trailing Raja by six points the season is still relatively young due to a long break during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Morocco.
And CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinalists OC Safi have found no relief in domestic competition. A 1-1 draw at newly-promoted Kawkab Marrakech leaves the Sharks with a four-match winless streak.
Their domestic form of OCS is particularly ghastly, still sitting at the foot of the table despite their success in continental action.
Action will resume with a full round beginning on Friday. Raja will host OC Safi while Wydad travel to face Union Touarga. RSB will host Difaâ El Jadidi while AS FAR travel to face RCA Zemamra.
