His evasive answer fueled speculation. Following this, institutional silence, persistent rumors, and a flurry of denials punctuated the wait.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has finally made its decision: the separation from Regragui is official, and a new chapter begins with Ouahbi. A methodical coach, renowned for his rigor and thorough work, the new head of the Lions arrives with a large staff. Portuguese coach João Sacramento will be his first assistant.
Ouahbi led the North African nation to a historic title at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in October, after which he was assigned to the duty of coaching the North African nation’s U-23 national team in December.
The 49-year-old, born in Belgium, previously spent almost twenty years with youth teams at prominent Belgian club RSC Anderlecht. Coaching the Atlas Lions will be his first head coaching assignment at the senior level.
